The Witcher Remake, codenamed ‘Canis Majorisis’ is announced

One of the five titles announced earlier in October

The original Witcher game that was released in 2007 is finally getting a much need remake or remastered version as announced by CD Projekt Red in its latest blog post. And this time, its is being developed with Unreal Engine 5. It also turned out to be one of the 5 titles announced earlier this month.

The game is currently in early development at the Polish studio Fool’s Theory, which includes veteran Witcher series staff with complete creative supervision.

The Witcher Remake is still in very early development

The Witcher Remake is also known by the codename “Canis Majoris.” It’s still early, and the development team want to make sure the game is made with the utmost care and attention to detail, so while they are excited to share the news with the fans, we’d like to ask for your patience as it will be a while before they actually start talking about this project in depth.

The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger. Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.

With so many original classics getting remastered versions, it is not at all surprising for the fans. All we hope is that the game will have the original flavor with modern and next-generation console features.
