One Piece Odyssey to move in a new direction as shown in its most recent gameplay

The Straw Hat Pirates are back to rock n' roll in this new game!

One of the most highly anticipated and upcoming anime games, One Piece Odyssey is developed by ILCA and published by Bandai Namco who are well known for their anime-related game titles. In the most recent gameplay reveal of the game, it has been confirmed that the game will be set in a somewhat fresher direction than the original anime so that the players get a kick out of the game.

One Piece Odyssey brings turn-based combat

The game is a JRPG and revolves around a turn-based combat system for the fights. In One Piece Odyssey, the players control the protagonist of the show Monkey D. Luffy as he leads the Straw Hat Pirates on various adventures and navigates unknown waters as their crew captain.

When faced with adversaries, the world of exploration on the screen turns into a combat screen where fights take place. There are also strategy elements which include placing your crew in the apt positions to defeat the foes. The fifteenth arc of the One Piece series, the Water 7 arc will appear in One Piece Odyssey as a memory that the Straw Hat Pirates will have in their minds. Clips from Alabasta confirm that unlike the show’s and manga’s version of the Alabasta arc, Robin is an ally of the Straw Hat Pirates in the game. The game’s version of the events in the arcs will differ from the show in order to make the experience fresh for old fans as well.

This is in fact a great move as it will bring in more players due to the exclusive cutscenes and the fresh new take on the story. Therefore we can count on this move as being a strong show of presence from the sides of ILCA and Bandai Namco.

Final thoughts

The game is all set to release on the 12th of January, 2023 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and finally, satisfy all those fans who have been patiently waiting for the game to drop ever since it was announced. The game should turn up well and be rewarding enough to the players as it looks now. Therefore, it remains to be seen if the game does indeed live up to its hype.
