God of War Ragnarok guide: Level cap, skill progression, cosmetics, and more

Suit yourself up the nine realms await you

God of War Ragnarok is one of the most anticipated titles of this year and definitely one of the biggest reasons to buy a PS5. God of War Ragnarok stands as a testimony to what games can be if crafted with passion. That’s precisely why if you’re planning on starting the game you need to know some details and new additions that we’re going to discuss in this God of War Ragnarok guide to get the most out of it.

The epic saga continues the story of the previous entry God of War (2018) developed by Santa Monica Studios by picking up the story shortly after its events of it. Kratos and his son get ready to traverse the nine realms to stand in the of the impending Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok best tips, tricks, and strategies

1. Transmog your favorite weapons at your will

The transmog feature for the weapons is really a very useful one as it allows the player to give a little personal touch to the game. If you upgrade a weapon up to level 9 then you can apply any cosmetic look to your weapons and even mix and match with the armor. As transmog was a very requested feature the developers at Santa Monica Studios bring them to every weapon you use. You can slash your enemies with style dripping out of weapons as well as blood.

2. Weapons won’t have a level cap

God of War Ragnarok won’t feature a level cap on any weapon, so unlike the last entry GOW (2018), every weapon is viable in Ragnarok. Each weapon can be upgraded up to the max level (9) and then transmog options will appear as mentioned above.

This brings whole new possibilities as having the option to sway any weapons till the last of the game and have a completely different combat experience than someone who chooses another one.

3. Exploration is key to better equipment

Santa Monica Studios have confirmed that exploration can get you better pieces of equipment than normally just following the main path. Wander off to any location you think looks interesting as the location might contain the best loot you can get. This might even help you if you face a steep difficulty curve that you struggle to overcome as the equipment might just be the key to success for you.

4. The questlines never expire

If you want to see through the whole game as soon as possible then you can definitely do that without worrying about missing out on the side quests. The questlines won’t expire even after the end of the main story so you won’t miss out on anything in the side quest area.

This saves you so much time as you’d have to start a whole new game previously ifn you just stormed through the story and wanted to play the side quest later.

5. Most of the skills can be upgraded further

Many of the skills available to you in the skill tree may have a counter attached to them. As you’ve probably guessed this isn’t just for decoring as it measures how many times you’ve used the skill. Grind the skill enough times and you’ll be rewarded with a skill mod that can be used to upgrade skills further and there are surely some juicy mechanics to play with in the skills department.

6. Upgrade your Attacks with XP

God of War Ragnarok gives you XP now just to level up or spend on skills, it can be used to upgrade your Runic attacks. They are pretty strong already but if you so wish you can definitely visit the weapons tap. You can also upgrade Spartan rage modes and Relics. Each and every mode of attack of rage has specific 2 levels dedicated to it that can be upgraded through the XPs.

A bonus tip

As is the case with all of our guides, we like to provide a bonus tip and this God of War Ragnarok guide won’t be an exception to that. There are various sets of armor pieces and you can mix and match all of the pieces at your will but having two pieces of armor from the same set will give both items a stat boost so go ahead mix and match your armor pieces and flex your build.
