Hot favorite Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is setting new heights for the franchise. Just after its launch, it has already bagged over $800 million in revenue in just three days. The blockbuster opening outperforms any of 2022’s largest worldwide box office openings, outperforming ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ combined.
COD MW 2 launch becomes the biggest for weekend opening
Modern Warfare 2’s opening three days surpassed the previous five-day franchise record, set in 2011 by Modern Warfare 3 in sell-through, resulting in the biggest opening ever in Call of Duty. Players from all over the world participated in the new launch, breaking franchise records for the number of unique players and hours played during the first three days of launch.
