Age of Empires is finally arriving on Xbox Consoles
Announced during the 25th year anniversary livestream
After releasing and evolving the Age of Empires franchise, the time has come for the existing and new Xbox players. There will be two console launches in 2023 to look forward to: Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will be released on Xbox on January 31, 2023, followed by Age of Empires IV later that year.
Age of Empires has risen and thrived over the last 25 years thanks to players all over the world who have conquered campaigns, won skirmishes, and mastered multiplayer. As a bonus, the hit franchise is also arriving on mobile devices.
2022 has been a big year for Age of Empires
With over 25 game updates, more than 15 in-game events (with outstanding rewards), and over 14,000 mods created and published, 2022 has been an incredible year for Age of Empires. The Age of Empires community is still growing and thriving.
The team has worked tirelessly to create an experience that not only feels incredible with a controller, but also instructs players how to play on Xbox. A new tutorial designed specifically for controller input, along with a new console user experience, will assist players in getting started. In addition, the devs have added a new game AI that makes resource management in a strategy game more efficient and intuitive.
2023 is going to be even bigger for AoE
Now Microsoft is bringing one of the best and most popular RTS games of all time to Xbox. Since its release in 2019, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has grown in popularity. The game is the best it’s ever been after nearly 40 updates, three DLC additions bringing new civilizations and campaigns, and a never-ending stream of improvements.
There are 83 maps, 42 multiplayer civilizations, 34 single-player campaigns, 10 multiplayer modes, and 7 co-op campaigns available to players. And now Xbox players can enjoy everything this fantastic game has to offer! Microsoft is also bringing the game to Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), allowing players to continue building their empires even when they’re not connected to a PC or console.
For those of you who have been requesting an Xbox version of Age of Empires, 2023 will be a big year because a console version of Age of Empires IV will also release later that year! The console teams have been collaborating closely to create a complementary experience that will introduce Xbox players to the newest addition to the Age of Empires roster.
Both console versions will be available through the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, bringing the trebuchet-launching, castle-destroying, empire-building action to players all over the world on the platforms they prefer.
