Age of Empires Mobile is announced during the 25th-anniversary stream

Age of Empires is also coming to Xbox

Age of Empires‘ 25th-anniversary livestream turned out to be a big surprise for many as Microsoft revealed an official mobile version of the beloved Age of Empires franchise. Mobile gamers who are also a fan of Age of Empires have been waiting for a mobile version for a long time since the closure of Age of Empires: Castle Siege. But now, it is finally happening.

Age of Empires Mobile is being developed by Xbox Game Studios and World’s Edge

The original studios that worked on the Age of Empires franchise are in charge of this mobile version. In the 20-sec teaser showcased during the 25th anniversary livestream the only thing fans notice is a village scenery with Cavalry troops passing by. The graphics and the environment looked quite vibrant, similar to Age of Empires 4.

Previously, Microsft has also tied up with Tencent‘s TiMi Studios to develop a mobile AoE which was released in China earlier this year. However, if this is the same game or not, that is still unknown. If we take that into account, it is going to be a 4x strategy game that will involve deep strategies as Microsft has pointed out that Return To Empire (the Chinese version) is “an authentic Age of Empires experience on mobile”.

When will Age of Empires release globally

For now, no release date or timeline has been given by Microsoft. However, fans can expect to hear more in 2023 as the 25th anniversary showcased that the next year is going to be massive for Age fans with Age of Empires finally arriving on Xbox. And if they are lucky, they might also be able to get it on mobile on the same year.
