Sony is developing Horizon MMO in collaboration with NCsoft
A new MMO Horizon game might be on its way
According to recent reports by the South Korean news site MTN, NCsoft is developing an MMO game based on Sony‘s famous IP ‘Horizon’. The Japanese giants have reportedly reached a deal with the Korean game developer NCsoft to make a game of the flagship Horizon franchise, which will target the global game market.
The ‘Horizon franchise kicked off with the release of Horizon Zero Dawn, developed by Guerilla Games in 2017 and was one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 titles of all time and was later released for the PC platform in 2020. The game gathered huge praise due to its open world, visuals, combat system and story based in a post-apocalyptic world. Horizon Zero Dawn was followed by its sequel Horizon Forbidden West, which was released in February 2022 and has received good reviews since its release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
NCsoft is recruiting developers for ‘Project H’
Recent job postings by NCsoft have been noticed to recruit game developers for ‘Project H’, which is assumed to be the code name for the upcoming MMO Horizon title. However, the reports suggest that discussion between Sony and NCsoft is still underway as a form of pre-development and post-negotiation.
However, NCsoft’s Global Communication Office commented, “It is difficult to confirm information about unpublished projects that are currently under development.” NCsoft had previously developed the MMO game Guild Wars and has released their own successful IP, the ‘Lineage’ series.
Additional reports from VGC mention that Guerilla Games had plans to expand Horizon into multiplayer for a long time. The co-op mode was first planned for Horizon Zero Dawn before the developers decided to drop it and include the feature in a future title, possibly the upcoming MMO game.
However, Sony is yet to comment on this matter, and Guerilla Games is reportedly working on the PlayStation VR2 launch title Horizon Call of the Mountain and Horizon Zero Dawn remastered for PlayStation 5. So the fans might have to wait for quite a long time before receiving any official announcement or update on the upcoming MMO Horizon Game.
