Overwatch 2 hits 25 million players in 10 days; sends out Legendary skin for free
The sequel to the team-based shooter sets a new Overwatch record
Over 25 million heroes have joined the battle in the first ten days since Overwatch 2 was released on Windows PC through Battle.net, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch consoles. Overwatch 2 is a cross-platform, free-to-play team-based action game. With a daily player population that is almost evenly distributed across EMEA, Asia, and the Americas and is nearly triple the previous daily player high from the original Overwatch, the game has already established itself as a worldwide sensation.
“The launch of Overwatch 2 has been such an important moment for Blizzard. We’re thrilled to bring new players from around the world into Overwatch’s vibrant universe while welcoming back the existing Blizzard community.”
Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment
In the first week alone, players successfully charged and released Kiriko‘s Kitsune Rush ultimate ability over two million times, making her the newest Support hero to enter the roster. Cross-platform progression, a new five-versus-five multiplayer structure, six new maps, the Push game mode, a new ping system, a revised competitive mode, updated hero appearances, several hero ability kit reworks, improved graphics and audio engines, and many more things are all new in Overwatch 2.
The debut is merely the beginning of Overwatch’s development. Regular seasonal updates for Overwatch 2 will include new heroes, maps, game modes, and cosmetics. Plans for the game’s eagerly anticipated PvE mode’s introduction will be revealed at a later time. It is scheduled to start rolling out early next year.
