King of the Castle, a story-driven, streaming-driven, PC multiplayer game set in a made-up fantasy kingdom, is currently being developed by the London-based studio Tributary Games, according to a recent announcement from Team17. When King of the Castle storms PC in 2023, users will be able to assume control of the Monarch or one of their Council of Nobles who comes from the game’s five distinct areas by using their Twitch account or an online browser.
Become a monarch and control your kingdom in King of the Castle
The Monarch and Nobles will have to cooperate throughout each adventure to traverse a tongue-in-cheek world of power, fantasy, and political intrigue as they deal with the perilous – and frequently funny – repercussions of deciding the course of an imperially uncertain empire.
In the King of the Castle, players will take on the role of the “Monarch” and progress through a number of short stories packed with original problems, some of which have far-reaching repercussions. For the Nobles, words are weapons. At the start of each game, players will be given a special homeland and the opportunity to express themselves via Twitch chat in order to discuss the problems the crown is facing, plot not-so-covert uprisings, or vote on important decisions, whose significance and legitimacy will be decided by the Monarch.
Players must collaborate with friends or complete strangers via Twitch or their computer browser to direct the destiny of their kingdom, overcome special challenges, and play a significant role in the rise or collapse of an empire. Players will have the opportunity to experience a vast array of original medieval fantasy tales, each with its own characters, decisions, and far-reaching effects.
Players who control the Monarch must strike a balance between the conflicting demands of their Nobles and any impending uprisings or political upheaval. They can even change the law completely to give themselves greater influence in the voting process, or they can buy, convince, or bully their way through contentious votes.
By selecting their name, pronouns, appearance, and even their family crest, players must assure their legacy on the land. They can assemble a small group of 4–21 individuals and play with their buddies! Only King of the Castle hosts are required to have a copy of the game; everyone else can connect using a special access code from a mobile device or web browser.
