Overwatch 2 Junker Queen Guide: All Abilities and Playstyle with tips
New Tank is the Queen!
With the launch of Overwatch 2, we got a new hero for each of the three categories. Among them, Junker Queen is the newest tank hero you got. If you are an old overwatch player, then you would know she was teased about being a character for a very long time. Now we finally have our hands on the character. In this Overwatch 2 Junker Queen guide, we’ll go in-depth with her abilities and see how to get the best of her.
Junker Queen is the first tank developed for the 5v5 format of Overwatch 2. So you see how the developers intended to play the game for tanks. The brawler playstyle with skillshots in her kit really fits her aesthetic.
Junker Queen: All Ability Breakdown
Junker Queen is a Tank in Overwatch 2. She is mainly a brawler tank, and much like Roadhog, she is also very focused on dealing damage. But unlike him, Junker Queen has a support ability to boost the teammates’ HP and speed for a certain time. Let us go through each of her abilities and break them down one at a time.
1. Passive: Adrenaline Rush
She has a unique status effect called wounds. It functions pretty much similar to burning from Ash. There are several ways to apply wounds with her skill. If she hits an enemy with wounds, she gets HP back for as much damage done by the wounds.
2. Scattergun
Scattergun is Junker Queen’s main weapon of choice. It is a pump-action shotgun with a six-ammo capacity. It doesn’t do too much damage long-range, but it is an ok weapon for close-range fights. And her other abilities also encourage her to play close range. Thus this is a perfect weapon of choice for her.
3. Jagged Blade
Jagged Blade is her skill shot ability. You will need to practice a fair bit to use this ability effectively. Upon pressing the ability button, she throws her knife into the aimed place. This functions as a projectile, so you need to time it correctly to hit the enemy.
If the knife hits the enemy, it applies wounds and sticks to the target. Then you can recall the knife and pull the enemy to you simultaneously. You can think of it like a mini Roadhog pull. But even if you don’t hit anyone with the knife, it will stick to the surface it hits. Then you can recall the blade through enemies to damage them.
This ability has a passive section too. While the jagged blade is equipped in your hand, if you melee an enemy, it will apply wounds to that enemy.
4. Commanding Shout
Commanding Shout is the support/sustain type ability for the Junker Queen. This is the only defensive ability she has aside from her healing passive. Upon pressing the ability, she shouts and gains 200 over health instantly. Any teammate in the Aoe of that ability gains 50 over health which lasts for a certain time.
This ability used to give 100 over health in the beta, but that was too strong. So the devs nerfed it to become 50. Nevertheless, it is still a strong ability to push your team and get out of sticky situations.
5. Carnage
Carnage is the name of Junker Queen’s big axe. When you press this ability, after a brief charge, she swings the axe dealing damage to everyone directly in front of her. The axe deals damage over time wounds. It is another close-range ability to encourage a close-range brawl style of play.
6. Ultimate: Rampage
Junker Queen’s ultimate was pretty powerful at the beta. But it has been nerfed because of Kiriko. Kiriko can counter her ult pretty easily. But it is still a good ultimate to use. When used, Junker Queen swings her axe and pushes forward through all the enemies. Everyone she hits gets wounded, and the anti-heal debuff is applied to them.
This is a good ability to pair with higher damage ultimate. Then wound and anti-heal help your other damage dealers to easily finish off the targets.
Best ways to play Junker Queen in Overwatch 2 with tips
In Overwatch 2, tanks fall into three different categories. One is Dive Tanks, the other is Shield Tanks, and the third type is the Brawler Tanks. Junker Queen falls in the 3rd category of being a Brawler Tank. That means she wants to do as much damage as possible by being in the front line.
Junker Queen’s abilities encourage her to play close to the enemy team. So if you want to get good at Junker Queen, you need to play her like a Brawler Hero. The brawler way is the main way to play her. But if you are good at her knife skill shot, you can also base your playstyle on that.
1. Brawler Style Play
This is her main playstyle. Use your shotgun to do damage, just like any other character. Use your commanding shout to close the distance on enemies. Then you can swing your axe with Carnage ability to deal damage when you are close enough. Carnage has a brief charge time, so make sure to adjust it correctly.
Then you can either use your melee weapon for more wound damage or a shotgun to finish the target off. If you hit a damage hero, most of the time, they are going to die if the opponent team is not healing them.
Use your knife to deal damage in this playstyle and occasionally catch some target with it. Don’t hesitate to throw the Jagged Blade out frequently. The skill has a pretty low cooldown. Also, if you don’t hit anyone with the blade, it can still damage enemies if recalled through them. Make sure you are hitting and dealing damage to them to heal yourself and build up the ultimate.
2. Skill Shot Playstyle
This simple playstyle with Junker Queen requires you to get good at throwing her knife. Once you get good at her skill shot, you can throw your knife at the enemies and stick them. Then pull them closer and hit them with carnage. This will apply double wounds to the enemies. Then finish them off with a shotgun blast and a melee attack.
Tips for Using Commanding Shout
Commanding shout can be used as a defensive ability as well as an offensive one. It gives a speed boost. So you can close the distance using the Shout. But the better way to use the ability is if your HP drops too low or you suffer serious damage. If any of these situations appear, use the commanding shout to stay in the fight for longer or retreat back to your healer for some healing.
