PS5 Beta update includes VRR support and Discord Voice Chat

Long awaited features finally arrives in 7.00 update.

A new firmware update has been released for the PS5 owners who are part of the PS5 beta community. This update brings a host of new features and changes to the console including Discord voice chat and Variable Refresh Rate support for a resolution of 1440p.

The update will be available to Invited beta participants from the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France will receive an email with instructions on how to download the beta and get started.

Now Discord Voice Chat works on PS5

Some of the features that have been introduced in this update are-

  • Join a Discord Voice Chat on Your PS5 Console. Players can now join Discord voice chats on the PS5 console and easily chat with friends on most other gaming platforms. Users will have to use the Discord app on their mobile device or computer to get a Discord voice chat going on the PS5 console. A Discord voice chat can’t be initiated directly from the console, unlike Xbox users who don’t have to depend on their mobile phones for the same feature.

  •  Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p. The PS5 will also get Variable Refresh Rate support for the 1440p resolution. This means compatible HDMI 2.1 displays can enable VRR at 1440p to benefit from smoother visual performance in games. However, this feature will be available only for VRR-supported devices and can be activated only in VRR supported games.

  • New “Friends Who Play” Tile. Through this tile you’ll be able to see which friends are currently playing a game, their availability status and also get other options to interact with them.
  • Game Library Enhancements. Players will be able to sort games when adding them to their games list and also use filters in library to find PSVR supported titles.
  • Wireless Device Update for DualSense Wireless Controller. The new update will allow PS5 users to update DualSense controller using a wireless connection, whereas previously users had to connect the controller to the console using USB for updates.

These are some of the new features. More features would be added through this update some of which are social features and other will be targeting Accessibility and Ease of Use. The full list can be found on PlayStation’s website.
