The Fantasy Premier League has passed the halfway point and we are now at Gameweek 21. Following the midweek FA Cup Replay round, the Premier League returns this weekend with some big games to wait for like Liverpool vs Chelsea and Arsenal vs Manchester United. In terms of FPL, GW21 is another opportunity for FPL managers to shake up their team in preparation for the weeks to come. For this week, there are quite a few good picks to consider and in this FPL Gameweek 21 Differentials 2022/23 guide, we will be looking at 5 Fantasy players with low ownership who could make a big difference to overall rank.
FPL Gameweek 21 Differentials 2022/23
1. Serge Aurier (Defender) – 4.5 million
After leaving Tottenham back in 2021, and following a short stint at Villereal, Aurier has wound up back in the Premier League and this time, for newly-promoted Nottingham Forrest. Recently, Aurier has been racking up points in FPL and has managed to stay under the radar. In the last 5 Premier League games, Aurier has contributed to 3 clean sheets and has scored once himself, averaging 6.8 points per game.
Forest seems to have been working on their defence lately, and a clean sheet in both their last two games could be evidence of improvement. An away trip to play Bournemouth is a good opportunity for Steve Cooper’s side to continue this run and potentially climb into the mid-table positions.
After GW21, Forest continues a decent run of fixtures by playing against Leeds and Fulham. Aurier’s budget price of 4.5 million and ownership of 0.7% ownership make him a possible differential pick, who could pay off really well if he can continue this form.
2. Dan Burn (Defender) – 4.5 million
Burn has turned out to be a fantastic addition to Newcastle, following his move last Summer. He has contributed greatly to what is currently the best defence in the league. The last time Newcastle conceded a goal in the Premier League was all the way back in GW15, and they have since been tallying clean sheets like nothing.
Their record of 11 clean sheets all season and an average of 0.6 goals conceded per game rank highest out of all teams in the league. Trippier is currently one of the most owned players in the game, but it’s worth doubling up on this Newcastle defence considering how consistent it has been. Dan Burn currently sits with just 2.6% ownership and is a great option to consider.
He has made an appearance in all 19 Newcastle games this season and has totalled 81 points. With fixtures against Crystal Palace, West Ham, and Bournemouth around the corner, it looks like 3 more clean sheets could be possible for Newcastle. Burn’s low ownership and budget price make him a promising option to consider.
3. Solly March (Midfielder) – 5.1 million
March is currently one of the most in-form players in FPL right now. With 3 double-digit hauls in just the last 4 games, March is playing really well at the moment. In that period, he has averaged 11 points per game, with a total of 4 goals, 2 assists and 9 bonus points.
Over the course of the season, March has proven to be a key creative outlet on De Zerbi‘s side. He has started in all 18 games for Brighton this season and currently ranks 2nd best for chances created (26), big chances created (6) and touches in the opposition box (71). His explosive form has skewed the figures but as it stands, no other Brighton player has scored more FPL points this season than March’s 88.
Brighton has been playing brilliantly as a team, ever since the Premier League restart. In those 4 Premier League games, they have won 3 of them, losing only to league-leaders Arsenal. That includes the emphatic 3-0 win against Liverpool in GW20. As it stands, only 3 other teams in the league have averaged more goals per game than Brighton’s 1.9. The squad travel to Leicester City in GW21, which has had a rollercoaster of a season so far.
Their defence has certainly been weak though, as Leicester ranks 4th for the worst expected goals conceded this campaign. Following GW21, Brighton has a good run of fixtures worth targeting, which includes Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, and Fulham. Solly March could be a fantastic pick if he keeps up this form, available at a great price and with just a 3.5% ownership.
4. Che Adams (Forward) – 6.3 million
Southampton has struggled so far this season, and currently sits bottom of the table. However, there is still plenty of time for them to climb again. With 3 wins in their last 3 games in all competitions, it looks like the new manager Nathan Jones might be starting to make something work. Che Adams has been leading the line for his team recently and has totalled 1 goal and 3 assists in the last 5 games, averaging an impressive 5.2 per game.
Furthermore, Adams’ influence on his team’s attack is evident through his underlying stats this season. Out of his teammates, Adams has the most shots (35), most shots on target, (13) and touches in the opposition box (79). Adams also adds creativity to his team and has ranked 2nd at Southampton for chances created (20) and joint-top for total assists.
Southampton’s GW21 opponent is Aston Villa, a side who have struggled a little in defence, particularly since the restart of the Premier League. Their 14 big chances conceded over the last four games is the 2nd most out of all teams in the league. Adams offers a cheap short-term solution for the forward position at just 6.3 million and if he can continue his form, he could turn out to be a good differential with just 1.8% ownership.
5. Aleksandr Isak (Forward) – 6.6 million
Isak has already hit the ground running, following the injury he suffered earlier this season. He took the headlines in GW20, after coming off the bench to score the winner which would help Newcastle take all three points against Fulham.
He has only managed to make 4 appearances in the Premier League this season but has scored 26 points in that period, which is a very good turn-out. Additionally, his minutes per goal record of 89 is further evidence of Isak’s potential to explode in FPL.
Newcastle takes on three teams in the bottom half of the table in the next 3 GWs. They are expected to continue their fabulous run this season which has them sitting 4th in the league. Current starting striker Wilson has failed to hit the back of the net since GW14. The fact that Isak scored off the bench on his first post-injury appearance suggests he could well take Wilson’s place as the team’s main man up top. With an ownership of just 1.5%, Isak could become a fantastic differential.
