FPL Gameweek 17 Watchlist 2022/23
The watchlist is back to identify players who’ve caught the eye based on past performances and upcoming fixtures. So here are a few suggestions for your consideration.
1. Mohamed Salah (Midfielder) – 12.8 million
Salah started his season slowly for sure, but his form took a spike just before the break. Having the highest 27 shots, with 13 on target, he has assembled 82 points so far. His 6 goals, 4 assists, and 4 clean sheets have helped him earn 3rd place among midfielders’ points so far. Also, he has had the maximum number of touches in the opposition box (52) and has created 8 chances so far. Lastly, he also has had an astounding 4.7 overall xG, with only Ivan Tony having more.
2. Kieran Trippier (Defender) – 5.9 million
With the most attempted assists (34) among defenders, the English right-back would be another choice of must-haves. He has been the best fantasy defender so far and has kept the most number of clan sheets among his positional rivals.
Trippier’s 4 assists and 9 clean sheets have helped him collect 96 points so far. Furthermore, he has created the most chances among defenders, only tied with Trent Alexander Arnold at 7. England’s run in the World Cup ended a bit sooner than expected, but Trippier would make sure Newcastle’s dream run in the PL continues.
3. Miguel Almirón (Midfielder) – 5.8 million
Perhaps the player who was really in some massive form before the World Cup. The Paraguayan overtook De Bruyne in the fantasy points tally for midfielders with 93 points. For only a 5.8 million price, his stats indeed are worth it. He has had 2 Assists and 8 Goals in the league so far and has achieved an average of 6.2 points per game. In the past eight gameweeks in the PL, he has been a better fantasy asset than the likes of Trippier, Kane, and Haaland.
Also, only Mohamed Salah has taken more shots than Almiron (24) in the past 8 gameweeks. However, whether the break in the season would affect his form, is still a doubt, however, for a price this low, he is undoubtedly worth a try and one of our must-have choices considering Newcastle’s overall form and run of fixtures.
4. Erling Haaland (Forward) – 12.2 million
The player who took the PL by storm. He has been way beyond the others in fantasy terms. With 18 goals already in the league, he would surely look to break all the league records this season. Now with the well-deserved rest, he got during the World Cup, he can again surely make it into everyone’s fantasy squads. He has an astounding 9.5 points per game on average at the moment!
With his xG of 11.3 and with the number of shots and chances he crates, he would surely rule the 2nd half of the PL season too for sure. He, as usual, put his name on the list of scorers against Liverpool in the mid-week 3-2 win in the Carabao Cup.
5. Ivan Toney (Forward) – 7.4 million
Brentford earned a sweet victory over the Champions Manchester City, courtesy of this man’s brace. With an xG of 9.9 and 6 big chances created (which are only lesser in quantity than Haaland among forwards), he can be another must-have forward for your team. Brentford‘s upcoming fixtures include the likes of London neighbors Tottenham and West Ham. Hence, Toney can be worth a try, given his guarantee to start.
6. Gabriel Magalhães (Defender) – 5.2 million
Behind only his partner at CB Saliba, the Brazilian now has 72 fantasy points. With the form, the Gunners are in, having him as a differential would be a wise choice. Given their upcoming run of fixtures and Saliba’s high TSB (35.4%), choosing Gabriel would fit perfectly into the definition of a differential. In this season it has seemed like you may trust the Arsenal defense, then why not Gabriel, given his goalscoring threat from setpieces too?
7. Christian Eriksen (Midfielder) – 6.3 million
He has been under Ten Haag‘s plans for this season and would hopefully be so for the 2nd half too. Having accumulated 50 points so far this season, it won’t be a surprise if he repeats his last game week’s performance and returns a double-digit haul. With only a TSB of 3%, choosing Eriksen would be worth a shot, given his playmaking skills.
8. Romain Perraud (Defender) – 4.4 million
The Saints’ left-back can be another choice as a differential. Only Kieran Trippier beat him in goal involvements in the 1st half of the season, among defenders. His price tag is under 4.5m and he also has had 2 goals and 2 assists already. He also has had an astounding 20 shots on goal and deserves serious attention now. Note that, his TSB is 0.7%, which is the lowest among the ones suggested here.
9. Anthony Martial (Forward) – 6.7 million
With the departure of Ronaldo from the club, a fit Martial might now be a regular starter under Ten Hag. The Frenchman has over 9 points per 90 minutes ratio, in the 5 appearances he has made this season. Also, with 5 shots on goal besides the ones that he scored, 4 were deemed to be Big Chances. Only Rashford had created more chances than him in his team. With only 3.1% TSB, he can be another forward pick for you, who would also be a cheap differential choice.
10. Dejan Kulusevski (Midfielder) – 8.0 million
Richarlison’s injury might make place for the Swedish winger to build his fantasy points tally. With 1 goal and 5 assists so far, Dejan has accumulated as many as 41 points so far owing to 4.6 PPG (Points per game).
He made an immediate impact upon his return from injury before the World Cup, with assists in consecutive matches. His 12 attempted assists and 10 shots, both rank 3rd among his teammates, behind Kane and on. Hence, with a TSB of 5%, Kulusevski can be a decent midfield option.
