With the new update, season 7 of Sea of Thieves you can now get the official title of captain, purchase, and name, and customize your own ship. We will guide you through the entire process.

How to become a ship captain in Sea of Thieves

The process of becoming a captain in Sea of Thieves is very simple. Purchase your own ship and name it and voila you are captain now. You can have multiple ships and you are the captain of all of them. But it is not as simple as it sounds because you will need gold lots and lots of gold.

Sloop: 250,000 gold

What to do after a player becomes a captain in Sea of Thieves

Becoming a captain in the Sea of Thieves is not just for name sake, a lot of in-game features are available to the players after they gain the title that is not otherwise available to normal pirates.

Sea of Thieves ship captain features

Shipwright Shop is now available: After becoming a captain players can buy more than just ship cosmetics. Special stashes, voyages, and Trinkets can be purchased as the Shipwright at any Outpost by a captain.

Exclusive Captain’s Voyages: In the Sea of Thieves special captain-only quests are now available. Players can stash these quests on their ship/ships and choose to take on whichever quest they want at the moment.

Captain’s Logbook opens up: The Captain’s Table comes equipped with a Logbook that tracks all Milestones for the captain to complete for both the captain and the ship. Stats shown in the milestones range from the distance traveled at sea to the amount of treasure loaded onto the ship in Sea of Thieves.

Sovereigns are up for trade: The Sovereigns are a unique Trading Company who have a representative at every Outpost. Captained crews can sell their loot to the Sovereigns for a bit of Gold and this also increases their reputation.

Customization for ships: The point of having your own ship is more than just the satisfaction of being a captain. Many customization options are available for the ship and any crew members who have been given permission by the captain can customize the ship itself as well as the captain’s quarters. Completing Milestones unlocks more Trinkets for purchasing decorations for the ship. Only ships that are officially captained can get the makeover.

So spend the gold to purchase your own ship, name it, and become its captain in the latest update. There is so much more content to explore not just as a captain but also by being part of a crew with a captain.
