Nintendo has reportedly begun negotiations with suppliers for the production of its next-gen console

Switch's successor might release in couple of years.

Nintendo Switch was released six years ago, in 2017, and everyone was eager to know what the new Nintendo Console offered. After its release, it proved to be a huge success for Nintendo as it has sold over 100 million units and is one of the best-selling consoles ever.

Recently, reports have emerged that Nintendo is planning its next console and has already begun talks with suppliers regarding its production.

Switch’s Successor to arrive in 2024 at the earliest

According to a report by Nikkei, at a press conference, when asked about the next-gen console Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa replied  “We want to provide entertainment that is different from others”. In the same report, it was stated that “negotiations with suppliers on a production system are also beginning.

As per the article, Switch’s successor will not arrive until late 2024. If Nintendo’s next console arrives after March 2024, then the Switch console generation will become the longest console generation in the company’s history. This record is currently held by NES which remained Nintendo’s flagship console for seven years.

However, Nintendo might not be in a hurry to launch a new console as Switch has already sold over 120 million units and has become the third best-selling console ever by beating Nintendo’s own Gameboy for the third position. It is also estimated that Switch will sell another 20 million units in 2023 after already being the best-selling console for the last five years.

Switch’s sales have managed to reach such heights due to its high-quality games like The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, etc. The excellent software has also been supported by hardware iterations such as Switch Lite and Switch Oled.

The players will still be able to enjoy games like The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Switch before its successor arrives.
