GameStop movie “Dumb Money” to star Sebastian Stan, Pete Davidson and Seth Rogen

Is it the second coming of The Social Network?

Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, Paul Dano and Pete Davidson have been cast for various roles in Black Bear Pictures’ Dumb Money, which is the live adaptation of “The Antisocial Network” by Ben Mezrich, which is about 2021 GameStop’s stock market explosion. This happened when a bunch of Redditors caused the stock of GameStop, a company that could barely survive, to skyrocket, breaking the whole stock market. The book is adapted into a screenplay by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker.

Dumb Money to begin shooting in October 2022

Dumb Money focuses on the short squeeze movement from GameStop, which happened in January 2021. During this period, the users of the subreddit wallstreetbets joined forces to increase the stock values of the video game retail company which suffered from low stock prices for several years.

This resulted in major hedge funds and big financial losses by independent short sellers, which shed light on the fact that the stock market needs more regulation. The movie is supposedly set around the Reddit users responsible for the whole market explosion and the actors are said to begin shooting in October of this year, 2022.

Black Bear Pictures will launch sales for the feature of the film at the Toronto Film Festival

At first, the rights of the original book were with MGM in January, which later moved over to Black Bear. They are going to fully finance the film and the rights for the foreign distribution stay with Black Bear International. They are also set to launch sales for the feature of the film at the Toronto Film Festival in September, while the U.S. rights to the feature stay under UTA Independent Film Group.
