Microsoft has now placed a complete restriction on NFTs in Minecraft
This step is meant to align with Microsoft’s values of a creative inclusion
NFTs have now been banned from Minecraft and the internet couldn’t be happier. In a move being lauded by most (after a rather long spell of bad steps still being protested by players), Microsoft has now released a new statement which will make the integration of NFTs into any facet of the game, a move against the user agreement.
Microsft termed NFTs as unreliable, encourage profiteering
According to the official blog post, NFTs have been rejected since the concepts of digital ownership, artificial scarcity and exclusion don’t align with the creative inclusion and feeling of togetherness Minecraft is meant to provide to their players.
Going forward blockchain technologies will no longer be allowed in the Minecraft client and the servers while also being barred from being used in any in-game content (skins, mods, blocks, etc.).
“The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering, which we think is inconsistent with the long-term joy and success of our players.”
Additionally, the shady side of NFTs have also been mentioned as unreliability and fraudulent activity is unfortunately fairly common in the world of blockchain based Web 3.0 technologies. Now that doesn’t mean the door is completely closed as they have left space for future speculation citing the possibility of practical and inclusive uses that might come up, although for now, the blockchain has no place in Minecraft.
This is yet another blow to the market and the future of NFTs, which from what we know, might as well be dead and buried in the ground forever. And in a lot of ways, Microsoft does make sense here and is fairly justifiable, although many argue that they should have the freedom to do whatever they want with their game since they paid for it.
