The Exorcist is a name that holds an extremely iconic status in the world of thriller and horror filmmaking. The original version of the movie came out way back in the year 1973 and has since been treated as a cult classic in Hollywood. This movie is going to be the sixth installment in this iconic franchise and will see the return of some recurring characters.

The movie is based on the struggles faced by a father who is left flabbergasted when his daughter gets possessed by a paranormal entity and triggers a chain of horrific events around herself. the helpless father finally seeks help from Chris MacNeil, mother of Regan MacNeil, as someone who has past experience in dealing with her own child suffering from possession.

2. Boston Strangler

Boston Strangler is a much-awaited thriller movie due to release in the year 2023 and will be based on real-life events and will revolve around real-life characters. It will follow the character of Loretta McLaughlin played by Keira Knightley. Loretta is a female journalist who is credited with breaking the story about the “Boston Strangler”, a serial killer who was convicted for the murders of 13 women in the city of the same name.

Loretta, accompanied by her trustee reporter Jean Cole, fights back against the sexism of the bygone era in order to bring the truth about the identity of the murderer to light. She did this with great personal risk and displayed much mettle, which we will hopefully see being portrayed in the movie.

3. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One

If you are a fan of thriller movies that involve action as one of their fundamental components, then Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One is the perfect choice for you. The Mission Impossible franchise led by Tom Cruise has long earned a name as one of the best movies of its genre out there and has been successful enough to have six films released in the franchise.

The exact premise of the film is kind of obscure but it will follow the spy theme which is so characteristic of the series. It will follow the secret agent Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise as he embarks on solving underlying international issues alongside his peers and colleagues.

4. Scream VI

Scream VI, as the name itself suggests is the sixth and latest installment in the slasher and thriller film franchise Scream. It focuses on a group of people being hounded by a maniac serial killer called the Ghostface who hunts down the victims and kills them using sharp objects such as a chainsaw, knives, axe, and so on. Scream VI will follow the latest Ghostface survivors and a pair of twins who get chased by their former nemesis once again in New York City.

The movie has garnered a lot of hype already, even though the release is a good few months away due to it starring the starlet Jenna Ortega. Ortega has amassed vast fan following her performance as Wednesday Addams in the show Wednesday which is currently the top trending show worldwide.

5. Knock At The Cabin

The movie Knock At The Cabin is one of the most widely anticipated thrillers of the upcoming year, that is, 2023, and for all the right reasons. The movie is directed by M. Night Shyamalan who is highly regarded for his direction of successful thrillers in the past and for winning an Academy Award for best director for the same. Knock At The cabin is classified as an apocalyptic psychological horror/thriller.

The movie follows the story of a family of three who is in the process of relocating to a remote and isolated cabin far from any town. Killers Of The Flower Moon is without a doubt the most stacked and heavyweight movie on this list. If there’s a movie that should set a benchmark for the other movies on the list, this should be the one. Directed by legendary director Martin Scorsese, often regarded as the greatest in his art, the movie also has a star-studded cast that has the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Brendan Fraser, and Lily Gladstone.

The movie is based on real-life historical events that took place in 190s America. The FBI becomes involved in a case where the members of Oklahoma’s Osage tribe are murdered under bizarre circumstances. The people in charge of the case have to work hard to uncover the culprit and his motive which many people believe is the oil deposits in the land of the Osage.

7. Salem’s Lot

Salem’s Lot is a movie you will immediately shortlist if you are a fan of thrillers and the supernatural because the movie is based on a novel of the same name by the one and only Stephen King. Dubbed the King Of Horror, many of King’s novels have been adapted into various forms of media and have been successful ventures, therefore setting the bar high for Salem’s Lot.

In Salem’s Lot, we get to witness the story unfold from the perspective of one individual named ben Myers who works as a writer. When he returns to his hometown Jerusalem’s Lot, he makes a shocking discovery. His hometown is under the clutch of a vampire and his turning the citizens into its subordinates he joins a group of delinquents to fight this evil force.

8. Saw X

You cannot be a body horror and dark thriller fan if you do not know about the ever-popular Saw franchise. The movies in this franchise are made with the intention to build the tensest and most nail-biting atmosphere for the fans which could also be terrifying at times. The movie is one that should be watched with viewer discretion as it contains very gory scenes which could be extremely disturbing to some people.

9. Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny

The forever iconic Indiana Jones franchise is going to make a theatrical comeback next year in 2023 and the fans are all in for it. The movie will see Harrison Ford reprise his role as Indiana Jones and we will see a de-aged version of the veteran actor in order to fit into his role. Indiana the globetrotter has always captured the audience with his dorky yet cool demeanor and we can surely hope it will happen again.

The movie revolves around Indiana and his goddaughter Helena as he sets out to address the issues he has with the US government enlisting the help of the Nazis in order to beat the Soviets in the Space race for prestige points. He has to fight Jürgen Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the moon-landing program, who wishes to make the world into a better place as he sees fit.

10. The Nun 2

The Nun, when it first came out in the year 2018, became an international hit and gained massive popularity and prompted the ones behind the movie into making another movie of the same name. It is the ninth movie in the super popular Conjuring universe and will be released in the last quarter of next year, that is, 2023.

The Nun 2 once again focuses on the Catholic missionary Sister Irene who is in France in the year 1956. There, an evil force is gradually taking hold which is revealed to be none other than the evil and demonic entity Valak who takes the form of a nun, hence the name of the movie. In August 2017, Wan discussed the possibility of a Nun sequel and what its story may be: “I do know where potentially, if The Nun works out, where The Nun 2 could lead to and how that ties back to Lorraine’s story that we’ve set up with the first two Conjurings and make it all come full circle.”
