Football legend Zlatan Ibrahimović is set to star in ‘Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom’ movie

'Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom' is coming soon

AC Milan’s striker, Zlatan Ibrahimović has joined the cast of  ‘Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom‘ with Guillaume Canet playing the role of the movie’s director and Asterix while Gilles Lellouche is playing Obelix. Along with them, there’s also Vincent Cassel (who plays Julius Caesar) and Marion Cotillard (Cleopatra.)

Zlatan plays the cameo role of a Roman gladiator who goes by the name Caius Antivirus and in the trailer shared by Ibrahimović himself, we get a look at the role he’s playing in the movie as he delivers a brutal uppercut in the heat of battle, along with a caption that says “Viva la France”.

The movie is a live-action take on the Asterix comics for which we do have a release date now. The movie will be coming out next year, that is 2023, on the first of February.

Could Zlatan get involved in more such projects

With this debut Zlatan joins other footballers like Neymar, David Beckham, Pele and Ronaldinho among others who have starred in movies, although despite his age (set to hit 41 next year), the player is still signed on with the club.

All things considered, it could be possible that his debut with this cameo would lead to more acting roles down the line especially with his career seeing a shift and him finally leaving the world of professional football after two decades worth of experience. That being said, for now all we have is this and the footballer’s involvement would definitely pique the interest of viewers.
